Chandigarh, Aug 20: Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) Jalandhar has arrested two more operatives of the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror module, recovering one 86P hand grenade from their possession, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Tuesday.

The accused have been identified as Vishavjit and Jackson, both hailing from Shankar in Nakodar. Their arrest comes days after Punjab Police had busted the BKI module, apprehending five operatives, including Ritik Naroliya and Sonu Kumar alias Kali, along with three juveniles, in connection with the Nawanshahr grenade attack. At that time, one hand grenade and a .30 bore pistol were seized.

DGP Yadav stated that acting on disclosures made by previously arrested operatives, including Ritik Naroliya and a juvenile picked up from Rajasthan, the CI team tracked Vishavjit to Kolkata while he was attempting to escape to Malaysia. His aide, Jackson, was arrested from Nakodar. Their arrest led to the recovery of the grenade, he said.

According to police, all accused were working under the command of Canada-based BKI masterminds Zeeshan Akhtar and Ajay Gill.

Sharing more details, AIG CI Navjot Singh Mahal said preliminary investigations revealed that Vishavjit and Jackson had collected two hand grenades from Beas in late July. One of those was later used in an explosion at a liquor shop in SBS Nagar 10 days ago by other module members.

The AIG confirmed that further investigations are underway and more arrests are expected. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar.
