Illegal stone quarrying busted in Beltangady; case registered

Beltangady, Aug 19: Officials from the department of mines and geology, in coordination with local authorities, raided an illegal stone quarrying site in Beltangady taluk and registered a case.

The raid was conducted at Neriya village, where Boban, a resident of Nekkare, had obtained permission to carry out quarrying on his patta land for agricultural purposes. However, it was found that Pavan, son of John from Mundaje, was illegally carrying out stone quarrying on government land, including riverbank areas.

Acting on specific information, on August 18, a team led by Vasudha from the department of mines and geology, Mangaluru, along with officials from the Beltangady revenue department, survey team, and Dharmasthala police, carried out the raid.

During the operation, officials seized two excavators, one tipper, and one tractor used for illegal quarrying. A case has been registered at the department of mines and geology.
