Hyderabad, Aug 18: A 10-year-old girl was brutally murdered at her residence in Kukatpally on Monday afternoon, sending shockwaves through the local community. The Class 6 student, who was home alone due to a school holiday, was found dead under suspicious circumstances when her father returned briefly during the day.
According to the Kukatpally police, the girl was discovered lying motionless on the bed by her father, Krishna, a bike mechanic, who had returned home around 12:30 p.m. to collect a lunchbox for his son. Alarmed by her condition, he immediately sought help from neighbours and rushed her to a hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
Preliminary investigations revealed stab injuries on the child’s body, suggesting foul play. The police have registered a case of murder and launched an investigation. The dog squad and forensic teams were deployed to the scene to collect evidence, while CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being closely reviewed.

The victim’s mother, Renuka, works as a lab technician, and her younger brother was away at school at the time of the incident. With both parents away for work and the girl alone at home, investigators are trying to piece together the timeline and identify possible intruders.
Police said the family had no major disputes, except for some minor disagreements with neighbours, but so far no specific suspects have emerged. Senior officials from the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate visited the crime scene to oversee the investigation.
The girl’s body has been sent to Gandhi Hospital for a post-mortem examination, which is expected to shed more light on the cause and timing of death. Officers have urged the public to come forward with any information that might assist in solving the case.
A police spokesperson confirmed that the emergency call was received around 1:10 p.m. and emphasized that all angles are being investigated. “The motive remains unclear. We are awaiting the autopsy report before drawing any conclusions,” the officer stated.
This horrific incident has left the Kukatpally locality in mourning and raised serious concerns about child safety, especially in urban areas where children are often left home alone.
