Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Aug 18: A stray dog has injured 14 people in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, with the latest victim being an elderly man attacked in a CIDCO township alley last evening. The man sustained injuries to his face and hands and is undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
CCTV footage shows the dog jumping at the elderly man’s face, causing him to fall before bystanders intervened to scare the animal away. Residents say the same stray dog has attacked multiple people, but civic officials have so far struggled to capture it.

The incident comes amid a nationwide debate over stray dogs, following a Supreme Court order directing authorities in Delhi NCR to round up strays and shift them to shelters. While the ruling has drawn support from those concerned about safety, dog lovers have protested, citing welfare concerns. Experts have also questioned the feasibility of the order, given Delhi’s estimated 10 lakh stray dogs and the resources required to maintain shelters.
A new bench of the Supreme Court has pulled up civic authorities for failing to implement animal birth control measures, holding them partly responsible for the escalating stray dog problem. The matter has been reserved for further orders.
