New York, Aug 18: A mass shooting at a Brooklyn nightclub early Sunday left three people dead and nine others injured, in what police suspect to be a gang-related attack.
The incident occurred around 3:30 am at Taste of the City Lounge in Crown Heights after a dispute broke out. Police commissioner Jessica Tisch said investigators believe up to four shooters were involved. At least 42 shell casings and a firearm were recovered from the scene.
A 19-year-old man died on the spot, while two others, aged 27 and 35, succumbed in hospital. The remaining victims, ranging from 19 to 61 years, are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Calling it a “tragic, senseless act of violence,” Tisch said no arrests have been made yet but vowed to bring the culprits to justice.
This marks the city’s second mass shooting in weeks. On July 29, four people, including a police officer, were killed in a Manhattan office tower shooting.
Mayor Eric Adams expressed concern over the rising gun violence. “This is the second within weeks, and we don’t want this to turn into a normal course of doing business of violence in our city,” he said, urging residents to cooperate with the NYPD tip line.
Crisis management teams have been deployed to support victims’ families and prevent retaliation. Despite the incident, officials noted New York has recorded the lowest number of shootings in the first seven months of 2025, calling Sunday’s attack an anomaly.
