Bettiah, Aug 13: A shocking incident at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Bettiah, West Champaran district, has sparked public outrage after a video emerged showing a body being dragged inside the facility for post-mortem instead of being carried on a stretcher.

District Magistrate Dharmendra Kumar said the disturbing video came to his notice on Monday, following which a report was sought from the GMCH principal. The mortuary assistant seen in the footage has been suspended, and a policeman involved has also been referred to the Superintendent of Police for appropriate action.

A committee has been constituted to recommend measures to prevent such incidents in the future, with instructions to submit its report within 72 hours.

The viral video, widely circulated on social media, has drawn sharp criticism over the lack of basic dignity accorded to the deceased.
