Imphal, Aug 12: In a major counter-insurgency sweep, security forces in Manipur have arrested 22 hardcore militants from various banned outfits and seized a significant cache of arms, explosives, and ammunition during joint operations across six districts, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The coordinated intelligence-led operations were carried out by the Army, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police over the past week in Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Chandel, Thoubal, Imphal West, and Imphal East districts.
According to a Defence PRO, the arrested individuals are active members of multiple insurgent factions, including the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), and the United National Liberation Front (UNLF).

Forces recovered six sophisticated weapons, grenades, IEDs, a large quantity of assorted ammunition, and other war-like stores. These operations, officials said, reaffirm the determination of security agencies to restore peace and ensure public safety across the conflict-affected state.
Among those apprehended was Mayengbam Amitab Singh alias Khaba (32), a top KCP (People’s War Group) operative, who was arrested in Thoubal district on Monday. Investigations link him to previous attacks on police personnel and threats issued to staff at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Imphal. Arms and ammunition were found in his possession at the time of arrest.
Security forces continue to maintain strict vigilance through area domination and search operations, especially in vulnerable and fringe areas.
Meanwhile, Manipur Police have issued a public advisory urging citizens to avoid sharing or believing unverified information. Authorities warned against the circulation of fake videos and misinformation on social media, emphasizing that such activities could attract legal consequences.
“The public is requested to verify any suspicious videos or audio clips through the Central Control Room. Spreading false content or uploading fake posts will invite strict legal action,” the police statement read.
Police have also appealed to the public to voluntarily return any looted arms, ammunition, or explosives to the nearest police station or security personnel immediately.
