Chennai, Aug 12: Chief Minister M K Stalin will on Tuesday launch the ‘Chief Minister’s Thayumanavar Scheme’ aimed at delivering ration items directly to the doorsteps of over 21 lakh senior citizens and differently abled beneficiaries across Tamil Nadu.
According to an official release, the scheme will cover 20.42 lac senior citizens above 70 years of age and over 1.27 lac differently abled ration card holders. Essential items such as rice and sugar will be delivered to the beneficiaries every second Saturday and Sunday.

The state’s Food and Consumer Protection Department has already collected beneficiary details and shared them with field staff. The delivery personnel will be equipped with electronic weighing machines and e-PoS devices to ensure accurate distribution.
The government has allocated Rs 30.16 cr for the initiative, which aims to improve the quality of life for marginalised sections and reduce their hardship in accessing ration supplies.
“The pro-people move reaffirms the government’s commitment to the welfare of the elderly and differently abled,” the statement added.
