Shetty, originally from Ermal, is survived by his wife and an only daughter living in Australia.

Darshan’s pillion rider, Natasha, also a student of the same institution, remains hospitalised with serious injuries.

Darshan was known as a bright student and active participant in extracurricular activities, even serving as a brand ambassador for Nitte institutions, with his photographs featuring on several promotional displays. He lived with his parents at Jappu in Mangaluru, where his father works as a civil contractor. He is survived by his parents, an elder sister working as an HR manager in a private firm, and a younger sister studying in second PUC.

My heartfelt condolences to the families of the two people who lost their lives in the tragic road accident at Uchila. This tragedy is yet another reminder that traffic awareness is urgently needed in Udupi Dist. Many drivers seem unaware of basic rules — at roundabouts, instead of keeping left, they take whichever route they find. Wrong-side driving and two-wheeler riders going in the opposite direction has sadly become common. I suspect many bikers don’t even know it’s illegal — they think it’s acceptable. We must educate everyone that saving a few seconds or 50 paise worth of petrol by avoiding the nearest U-turn can cost someone their life. Road safety begins with discipline, awareness, and respect for others on the road.

RIP departed souls! Very tragic & unfortunate; two wheelers are a strict no-no in this place; probability of an accident are extremely high!
