Facebook Page admin booked for spreading false news, harming communal harmony

Mangaluru, Aug 10: Acting swiftly against attempts to disturb peace, Puttur City Police have registered a suo motu case against the administrator of a Facebook page named “Bharatiya Sena” for allegedly posting false and provocative content on social media.

According to police sources, the posts were aimed at creating animosity between religions and communities, thereby posing a threat to communal harmony. It is alleged that the content also created a sense of fear and unrest among the public.

The incident came to light following routine monitoring of online activities. On August 10, Puttur City Police registered the case under Crime No. 70/2025, invoking Sections 196(1)(a) and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.

Police have assured that strict legal action will be taken against those indulging in spreading misinformation and disturbing social harmony.
