Nagpur, Aug 10: Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar on Saturday urged citizens to back the Central government in the face of ‘pressure tactics’ by US President Donald Trump over steep tariffs on Indian goods.
Speaking at a press conference in Nagpur, Pawar termed the 50 per cent tariff on Indian products a deliberate move to pressure India. “We, the people of India, should support the government to protect the nation’s interests,” he said.

The former Union minister refrained from commenting on whether the Modi government’s foreign policy had failed but noted that Trump’s style was unpredictable. “No one has control over him. He speaks impulsively whatever comes to his heart,” Pawar remarked.
He also cautioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi about strained relations with neighbouring countries. “Pakistan is against us, and Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives are not happy with us. Our neighbours are moving away. Modi saheb should focus on improving these ties,” he said.
