New Delhi, Aug 8: The Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi has strongly condemned the recent violent attacks on Indian nationals in Ireland, calling the incidents an affront to the nation’s core values of equality and dignity.

In an official statement, the Irish Embassy expressed deep anguish, asserting, "We condemn these attacks in the strongest possible terms. They are an assault on the values of equality and human dignity that Ireland holds dear." It further emphasised that racism and xenophobia have no place in Irish society and that the acts of a few do not represent the true spirit of the Irish people.

The statement highlighted that the Irish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs will meet with representatives of the Indian community in Ireland on Monday, August 11, in response to the growing concerns.

Acknowledging the growing Indian diaspora in Ireland, the statement noted, "Over 100,000 Indians now call Ireland home. Our society is enriched by the diversity of people who live in Ireland, particularly our Indian community, whose contributions continue to deepen the bonds between our nations."

The Embassy confirmed that it remains in regular touch with the Indian mission in Dublin, and that the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs is in ongoing communication with An Garda Síochána, the Irish police, regarding the investigation into these attacks.

Earlier, on August 1, the Indian Embassy in Ireland had issued an advisory urging Indian nationals to remain alert and take necessary precautions due to the rise in physical attacks.

Ireland has emerged as a key destination for Indian students pursuing higher education, especially in areas like engineering, technology, medicine, and management. As per the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), over 10,000 Indian students are currently enrolled in Irish institutions.
