Amritsar, Aug 8: A heartwarming celebration of Raksha Bandhan unfolded in Amritsar’s Lohri Gate area on Friday, where hundreds of women gathered to send Rakhis to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a token of gratitude for his strong leadership and decisive actions against terrorism, particularly referencing ‘Operation Sindoor’.
Organised with festive spirit from 10 am to 4 pm, the event saw enthusiastic participation from women across various walks of life. They described their Rakhis as a “thread of thanks,” symbolising their appreciation for the Prime Minister’s role in safeguarding the nation.

BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh, who was present on the occasion, highlighted the emotional essence of the gesture. “The women of Amritsar are sending Rakhis to Prime Minister Modi, thanking him for 'Operation Sindoor'. This is not just a festival; it's a reflection of the special bond PM Modi shares with the women of the nation,” he told.
He added that Modi’s strong stance on national security, including surgical strikes, has sent a clear message to Pakistan that India will not tolerate terrorism. “The sisters said that Prime Minister Modi gave Pakistan a befitting reply for the killing of innocent civilians,” Chugh said.
Taking a political swipe, Chugh also accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of trying to encroach on farmers' land. He announced that the BJP would launch a statewide protest across Punjab after August 19, led by state party president Ashwani Sharma. “We will take this fight from village to village to ensure that not even an inch of Punjab's land is unjustly taken,” he declared.
The event took place a day before Raksha Bandhan, which will be celebrated on August 9 this year. The festival, which falls on the full moon day of the Shravana month, honours the bond between brothers and sisters, with sisters tying Rakhis and praying for their brothers’ well-being, while brothers vow to protect them.
