Udupi, Aug 8: Tragedy has struck the ‘Kantara’ film fraternity once again. In a shocking incident, noted actor and theatre artiste T Prabhakar Kalyani, who had appeared in the first Kantara movie, collapsed and passed away at his residence in Hiriyadka on Thursday morning.

A native of Perdur and a retired officer from Bank of Baroda, Prabhakar was well-known for portraying the role of a lawyer in Kantara. According to family sources, he had slipped and fallen at home two days ago and was under treatment. At around 8:30 am today, he complained of pain in his hands and legs to his wife. Just as preparations were being made to take him to the hospital, he breathed his last.

Passionate about theatre, Prabhakar had actively performed in various stage plays. For his role in Kantara, he had grown and maintained a beard for almost a year. However, close associates revealed that he was deeply disappointed when the film crew replaced his originally assigned role with a different one at the last minute.

He is survived by his wife, a son, and a large circle of relatives and admirers. His final rites will be performed later on Friday at the Beedinagudde crematorium.
