Mangaluru, Aug 6: The Mangaluru City Traffic police have announced that asphalting work will be carried out on the road stretch between KIOCL Junction and Panambur Junction on Wednesday, August 7.

The work involves laying bitumen to address potholes and improve road conditions.

Maintenance work is scheduled to be carried out from August 7 to 13 along the stretch between Surathkal and Nanthoor. The work will take place between 11 am and 3 pm, as well as during night hours. The maintenance activities include pothole filling, patch repairs, and drain cleaning to improve road conditions and ensure smoother traffic flow.

In view of the repair work, traffic diversions will be implemented in the area to facilitate smooth execution and ensure public safety. Motorists are advised to plan their travel accordingly and follow the traffic signs and directions provided by traffic personnel on duty.

The police have urged the public to cooperate and bear with the temporary inconvenience, assuring that the roadwork is being undertaken for long-term benefit and improved commuting experience.

Roads should be built to last for years. Every once in a few days roads develope potholes. Is this done on purpose so that contractors or sub contractors can make continuous profit by building worst quality roads using worst quality materials OR is some alien coming and making potholes in the roads? Why is MCC not bothered at all to fix all of these repeatedly occuring problems at once? Simply using Smart City does not make a city Smart. First let's fix the basics like proper descent roads, plastic free clean surroundings, safe and comfortable in city public transportation, Green cover- Trees/Plants etc within the city - These are the basics that any city needs today. First let's fix this, then maybe we can progress towards a Smart City. Addressing the plastic crisis, multiple times MCC has said single use plastic bags are banned. But after a few days the plastic Ban is no where to be seen. This is done just for 3-5 days to collect some fine and then it's forgotten. Even shop owners have learnt this trick and only for 2-3 days they will not keep single use plastic bags and after that back to Normal.

I am a daily commuter from Mangalore to Mulki. This inconvenience is not temporary but a permanent one! At least basic sense should prevail with the authorities as this goes on months after months and year after years. Will the authorities inform how long will this repairs last❓

"Is there any oversight from MCC or our elected representatives to monitor the quality of work being carried out? Or is this just another eyewash to benefit a few individuals? At this rate, the road will be back to its damaged state within two months."
