Hyderabad, Aug 6: India’s star pacer Mohammed Siraj is likely to be honoured in his hometown of Hyderabad after delivering a match-winning performance in the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England. Siraj, who emerged as the leading wicket-taker with 23 wickets in the five-match series, returned to India on Wednesday, landing first in Mumbai before heading to Hyderabad.

Dressed in stylish black casuals, the 31-year-old fast bowler received a warm welcome from fans at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Despite a rush for selfies and autographs, Siraj swiftly made his way to catch a connecting flight home.

Speaking to PTI, a senior official from the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) hinted at plans to felicitate the cricketer. “We have not spoken to him yet. But we will certainly plan something for him, as he could be in the city for a while now. It’s a matter of pride for all of us that he did so well for the country,” the official stated.

Siraj's standout performance came in the final Test at The Oval, where he picked up a five-wicket haul in the second innings and finished with nine wickets in the match. His efforts helped India clinch a thrilling six-run win—the narrowest victory margin in their Test history—and level the series 2-2.

India’s captain Shubman Gill praised Siraj’s relentless commitment. “He is a captain’s dream. Every ball, every spell he bowled, he came all out and gave it everything for the team,” Gill said after the series finale.

Siraj, reflecting on the Oval triumph, expressed confidence in his ability to deliver under pressure. “I always believe that I can win the game from any point, and this morning was no different,” he said.

As Hyderabad awaits his return, cricket fans and local officials alike are eager to celebrate one of their own, whose gritty performances continue to bring glory to Indian cricket.
