Udupi, Aug 4: Had it not been for Dr B R Ambedkar, Dalits and other backward communities in the country would still be fetching water for the landlords, said former minister and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) Campaign Committee Vice president, Kimmane Ratnakar.
He was speaking as a resource person at the Udupi District Congress Campaign Committee meeting held at the Town Hall in Udupi on Sunday Aug 3.

Ratnakar criticized the BJP’s reverence for Ambedkar, calling it mere theatrics. “Until they secure a majority large enough to amend the Constitution, the BJP pretends to include all castes and languages. Once they gain full power, they aim to implement a law that enforces one language, one religion, and one ruler across the nation,” he alleged.
He praised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as a principled and committed politician, stating that having such a leader in the Congress party is a great fortune for the country.
“It is unfortunate that many educated Congress workers and leaders today lack awareness of the achievements and historical contributions of leaders like Gandhi, Nehru, and Ambedkar,” he remarked.
The meeting was attended by KPCC Campaign Committee president Vinay Kumar Sorake, Udupi District Campaign Committee president Alevoor Harish Kini, former MP K Jayaprakash Hegde, District Congress president Ashok Kodavoor, Kishan Hegde Kolkebail, Dinesh Puthran, Divakar Kundar, KPCC spokesperson Muneer Jonsale, Prasadaraj Kanchan, M A Gafoor, Sadashiva Amin Kattegudde, Ramesh Kanchan, Sukumar, Ida Gibb D’Souza, Chandrika Shetty, Dinakar Shetty, and Palli Sridhar P S.
