Mangaluru: Community mental health awareness programme at Deepika High School

Media Release

Mangaluru, Aug 4: Dr Thunga’s Manasvini Hospital recently conducted a community awareness programme at Deepika High School, B C road, reaching over 350 students with vital information on mental health, stress management, and the dangers of substance abuse.

Shashikala B, advisor and coordinator for community and educational services at the hospital, addressed the growing mental health concerns among today’s youth. She spoke about the confusion, anxiety, stress, and fears commonly experienced by students, and how these emotional challenges can lead to mental distress if left unaddressed.

A key highlight of her session was the alarming rise of drug abuse in the form of chocolate-shaped substances, easily accessible even at roadside shops. She explained how subtle changes in behavior, emotions, and thought patterns can be early warning signs of declining mental health.

The programme saw enthusiastic participation from the school’s principal, teachers, and students. The session concluded with a call to stay informed, alert, and supportive of one another in matters of mental well-being.
