Guwahati, Aug 3: Seven class 11 students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Rangia in Assam's Kamrup district, have been detained for allegedly sexually assaulting a Class 6 boy for the past three months.
All involved, including the survivor, are minors and boarders at the boys' hostel of the central government-run residential school. The case came to light after the survivor revealed the ordeal to his parents, who alerted school authorities. Acting on their complaint, the principal lodged an FIR with Rangia police.

Police detained the seven students and produced them before a juvenile court, which sent them to a correctional home for 14 days. The minor survivor has undergone medical examination, and statements of the accused and school authorities are being recorded.
Officials are also examining whether the school had safeguards in place to prevent such abuse on campus. CCTV footage from the school and hostel premises is being scrutinized for evidence.
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are a network of residential schools under the Ministry of Education aimed at nurturing rural talent through quality education.
