Mangaluru: St Theresa’s School hosts insightful ISC orientation programme

Media Release

Mangaluru, Aug 3: St Theresa’s School, Bendur, organized an ISC orientation programme on August 2at the Msgr Raymond Auditorium, under the able guidance of Sr Shaila BS, the correspondent, and Sr Lourdes BS, the principal.

The programme began with a meaningful welcome by Sr Lourdes, who spoke of the school’s vision to broaden academic opportunities for its students and the timely introduction of the ISC curriculum. Sr Shaila, in her message, emphasized that ISC is not just an academic stream but a path toward holistic student development.

The keynote address was delivered by Gayatri Devi, secretary of KISA (Karnataka ICSE Schools Association), who was the guest speaker for the day. In her impactful and insightful talk, she highlighted the advantages of the ISC curriculum, including its academic flexibility, strong English foundation, and global recognition.

A key highlight of her presentation was the emphasis on the four foundational language skills Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing (LSRW) which she described as vital for success in higher education and the professional world. She explained how the ISC curriculum systematically develops these skills through structured syllabi, project work, and examination patterns, thereby empowering students with strong communication abilities.

Gayatri Devi also spoke passionately about the importance of sports in education, sharing how the CISCE board actively promotes physical development and competitive sports. She elaborated on the CISCE Games & Sports competitions held at regional and national levels and the board’s collaboration with the School Games Federation of India (SGFI). She listed various sports disciplines such as athletics, football, basketball, swimming, table tennis, chess, skating, and more, which are supported and encouraged by the board to help students excel beyond academics.

The audience, comprising parents of grades 6 to 10 and students of grades 8 to 10, listened with keen interest. The clarity and depth of information provided by the speaker helped dispel many doubts regarding subject choices, career options, and the relevance of the ISC board in today’s educational scenario.

In a special session, Gayatri Devi addressed the students of classes 8 to 10 separately, drawing their attention to the responsible use of social media. She emphasized how every online action leaves a permanent footprint and reminded students that ‘your present becomes your past, and your past becomes your future.’ Through this thought-provoking message, she cautioned students against the misuse of digital platforms, encouraging them to post mindfully and avoid distractions that hinder academic and personal growth. She urged them to use social media as a tool for learning, creativity, and building a positive digital identity, reinforcing that true character is shaped not by likes or followers, but by values and choices made in real life.

The session concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks proposed by Juliet Rodrigues and the entire programme was smoothly compered by Jasmine Moreira.

The session proved to be a significant milestone in the academic journey of St Theresa’s School, as it steps forward with confidence to introduce the ISC curriculum, reaffirming its commitment to empowering students with excellence, values, and a vision for the future.
