Bantwal, Aug 2: In a crackdown on illegal mining-related transport, Vittal police seized two lorries found transporting red laterite stones without valid permits in Vittal Kasaba village on Saturday.
The operation was led by Vittal police sub-inspector Ramakrishna, who, along with his team, was conducting a routine vehicle inspection near Kashimutt in Vittal Kasaba. During the check, two lorries — bearing registration numbers KA 01 AJ 9542 and KA 50 AF 3229 —were stopped as they were travelling from Ukkuda towards Vittal.

Upon inspection, officers discovered that each lorry was loaded with approximately 500 red laterite stones. The drivers, however, failed to produce any documents or permits authorising the transport of the material.
Following this, police registered a case against Jaffer and Naseer, who are alleged to have arranged the transport of the stones without necessary permissions. Both vehicles and drivers have been taken into custody, officials confirmed.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against those involved in illegal transportation of natural resources.
