Pune, Aug 1: A 61-year-old man lost his life in Pune’s Aundh area after falling off his scooter due to a pothole and being run over by a car, police confirmed on Friday.

The deceased, Jagannath Kashinath Kale, was returning home on July 30 when his scooter reportedly slipped into a gap between the road and paving blocks, causing him to lose control and fall. Moments later, a car following behind ran over him.

The entire incident was captured on CCTV, prompting police to initiate the process of registering an FIR. “The footage clearly shows how the pothole caused the accident. We have begun investigations and appropriate legal action will be taken,” said a police official.

Authorities said the pothole had formed due to a gap between the road and nearby tiles, creating a hazardous surface. The matter has sparked outrage over poor road maintenance in the area. Further investigation is underway.
