Udupi, Aug 1: The spirit of youth and faith was vibrantly showcased at 'Yuvasamagam 2025', a prestigious deanery-level youth convention organized by ICYM Udupi deanery in collaboration with ICYM Moodubelle unit. Held at St Lawrence Church Hall, Moodubelle, the event drew over 200 enthusiastic youth from nine units across the Udupi deanery, uniting them in fellowship, creative expression, and spiritual growth.

The day commenced with the ceremonial hoisting of the ICYM flag by Fr George Thomas D’Souza, parish priest of Moodubelle, followed by an inaugural gathering inside the church hall. Dane Mendonca from Moodubelle unit served as the master of ceremonies, welcoming attendees and guiding the programme.

The event’s opening was marked by a soulful prayer song performed by the First Gear Band, creating a reflective and inspiring atmosphere. The dignitaries on the dais included Fr George Thomas D’Souza, parish priest of Moodubelle, Shreyans Gomes, UPSC Civil Services Exam 372nd Rank Holder, CA Pritesh D’Souza, vice president of the parish pastoral council, Rouvin Pereira, president of ICYM Udupi deanery, Joyce Fernandes, secretary of ICYM Udupi diocese and Aaron Barboza, president of ICYM Moodubelle unit all welcomed with eco-friendly potted plants as a symbol of respect and environmental consciousness.

A key highlight was the felicitation of Shreyans Gomes, a proud Udupi native who secured the 372nd rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination. In his motivating address, he emphasized values such as perseverance, discipline, and respect for elders, inspiring the youth to pursue their goals with dedication.

Fr George D’Souza acknowledged the importance of youth conventions in nurturing leadership, community service, and spiritual values. He cited notable ICYM alumni like Ivan D’Souza (MLC) and Anil Lobo (president, MCC Bank) as shining examples of youth excellence fostered through ICYM.

The inaugural session concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Ashlita Mendonca, secretary of ICYM Moodubelle, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the event.

Post-inauguration, participants engaged in lively action songs and team-building spot games, fostering camaraderie and enthusiasm. An interactive guest session by Adv Rayan Fernandes on “Law, cybercrime, and blood donation” further enriched the experience, raising awareness on legal rights, digital safety, and the importance of blood donation.

A spiritually uplifting Holy Eucharist, led by Fr Steevan Fernandes and Fr Rikson Monteiro, provided a moment of reflection on Christian values and youth leadership. The day’s spiritual and social themes emphasized the importance of faith-based service and integrity.

All youth enthusiastically gathered to partake in the fellowship meal later in the day, fostering camaraderie and community spirit. The event was further honored by the presence of various unit directors and ICYM central council members, whose visit added to the significance and celebratory atmosphere of the occasion.

In the afternoon, youth showcased their creativity and teamwork through various competitions, including face painting, kopel making, mind maze, reels making, and phokana. The events fostered a vibrant display of talent and innovation.

The Valedictory Ceremony, held and hosted by Rovina D’Sa, featured dignitaries such as Fr Charles Menezes, Fr Steevan Fernandes, and Steevan Colaco. The gathering celebrated youth achievements, recognizing members of ICYM Udupi deanery- Shainey Alva, president of ICYM Udupi deanery (2024), and Aaron Oliveira, secretary (2024). Shainey was announced to lead the Blood Donation Campaign for 2025–26.

A special moment was the unveiling of the logo for UDPL (Udupi Deanery Premier League) Season 3, scheduled for October 12, promising a spirited showcase of sportsmanship and youth engagement.

The event also acknowledged sponsors with mementos of appreciation and recognized unit presidents for their active involvement.

Fr Rajesh Passana announced the results of the competitions. The overall championship was awarded to the Perampally unit, with Udyavar unit securing the runner-up position—both celebrated for their outstanding participation and team spirit.

The event culminated with a lively musical celebration by the First Gear Band and DJ Edwin, energizing the crowd for an energetic finale. To mark the memorable day, ice cream was distributed to all participants, fostering a sense of community and joy.

Yuvasamagam 2025 not only celebrated the vibrant spirit of youth but also reinforced the importance of faith, leadership, and social responsibility. The event successfully inspired the young participants to embrace their potential and serve as torchbearers of positive change within their communities.
