FDA shuts four eateries near Tivim Station over poor hygiene in surprise raid

Tivim, Jul 30: In a surprise crackdown near Tivim Railway Station, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) inspected 14 food-related establishments on Tuesday, resulting in immediate closure orders for four units due to unhygienic conditions.

The inspection covered a range of outlets, including restaurants, tea stalls, liquor wholesalers, and dry fruit shops. According to officials, the four outlets that failed to meet hygiene standards were ordered to shut down operations immediately.

The remaining 10 establishments were issued improvement notices under Section 32 of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA), 2006, with a 14-day deadline to meet required food safety norms.

Additionally, one outlet — previously found non-compliant — was fined Rs 5,000 under Section 69 of the Act for failing to rectify earlier violations.

The operation was led by North Goa Designated Officer Richard Noronha and Food Safety Officers Lenin De Sa and Amit Mandrekar, under the supervision of FDA Director Shweta Dessai.

Officials said this drive is part of the department’s ongoing campaign to enforce food safety and hygiene in public-serving establishments. More checks are expected across the state in the coming weeks.
