Udupi: Robbery accused nabbed after 21 years on the run, produced in court

Udupi, July 29: In a remarkable breakthrough, police have successfully traced and arrested a long-time absconder who had been evading the court for over 21 years in connection with a robbery case.

The case dates back to December 25, 2004, when a complaint was filed by one Shoukath Ali at the Shankaranarayana police station. One of the accused in the case, Farooq, a resident of Megralu, Puttur, Kasargod district, had absconded since 2004 without appearing before the court. A long pending case (LPC) warrant had been issued against him.

Under the guidance of Udupi superintendent of police Hariram Shankar and additional superintendent of police Sudhakar S Naik, and as per the instructions of Kundapur sub-division DySP H D Kulkarni and circle inspector Jayaram Gowda, a special team was formed to trace the accused. The operation was led by Amasebail police sub-inspectors Ashok Kumar and Chandrappa A K

The team conducted a meticulous investigation, gathering credible information from various sources. Acting on the intel, they apprehended the absconding accused Farooq on Monday, July 28 at Magadi in Ramanagara district.

Those involved in the successful operation included Amasebail police sub-inspector Ashok Kumar and team members: head constable Raghavendra and police constables Parameshappa Hebasooru, Sudhakar, Darshan and Mallesh besides Dinesh from the district police office.

On Tuesday, July 29, the arrested accused Farooq was produced before the court. The court has remanded him to judicial custody.
