Pune, Jul 23: A man from Pune has reportedly lost over Rs 5 lac after falling prey to a cyber fraudster who lured him with promises of high returns from stock market investments, police said on Tuesday.

According to officials at Ambegaon police station, the victim was browsing share market advertisements when he was added to a WhatsApp group offering trading guidance. The group administrator convinced him to invest in an IPO scheme.

The accused then sent the victim a suspicious link and requested personal information, including Aadhaar and PAN card details, under the guise of investment documentation. Using these credentials, the fraudster siphoned off more than Rs 5 lac from the victim’s bank account.

Realizing he had been conned, the man approached the Pune police, who have registered a case and launched an investigation into the online fraud.
