UIDAI plans in-school biometric Aadhaar updates for 7 crore children

Daijiworld Media Network – New Delhi

New Delhi, Jul 22: With nearly 7 crore children's Aadhaar cards pending biometric updates, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is planning to facilitate biometric updates within schools.

Bhuvanesh Kumar, CEO of UIDAI, stated that a project is being formulated in this regard and is expected to be ready within the next 40 to 60 days.

As per UIDAI guidelines, biometric updates are mandatory once a child crosses the age of five. If the update is not completed even after the child turns seven, the Aadhaar number may be deactivated.

To prevent deactivation and simplify the process, UIDAI is considering collecting parental consent and conducting biometric updates directly at schools, Kumar added.
