‘Let them talk’: TMKOC’s Sonalika Joshi reacts to viral cigarette photo controversy

Mumbai, Jul 18: Popular television actress Sonalika Joshi, best known for her role as Madhavi Bhide in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, recently opened up about a past controversy where she was labelled a ‘chain smoker’ after posing with a cigarette for a magazine photoshoot.

In a candid interview, Joshi clarified that the viral photo was part of a stylized shoot and she wasn’t actually smoking. “I was just holding it and sitting like that. It was for the style, for the pose,” she said. However, the picture triggered a wave of negative reactions online, with YouTube channels and social media users branding her a chain smoker.

Unfazed by the criticism, Sonalika remarked, “Let them talk. My family is my greatest asset. If they know who I truly am, then what difference does it make what others say?”

The actress also highlighted how the image was misinterpreted: “It was a proper photoshoot, with a completely different look. I wasn’t casually smoking as Sonalika. If people can’t understand the concept of artistic expression, it’s their problem.”

Taking a dig at those fueling the rumours, she added, “Maybe they’re getting views, maybe it gives them sadistic pleasure. Or maybe they just enjoy being judgmental. Let them.”

Apart from her iconic role in TMKOC since 2008, Joshi has an extensive career in Marathi theatre and television, having acted in plays like Baiko Asun Shejari and serials like Paus Yeta Yeta and Kimayagar.
