Patna, July 18: In a chilling daylight attack that has shaken Bihar’s law-and-order system, gangster Chandan Mishra, who was admitted to Paras Hospital under police custody, was gunned down inside the hospital premises. CCTV footage shows five armed assailants walking in calmly, loading their weapons, and executing the crime with terrifying ease before fleeing the scene.

Mishra, a notorious criminal from Buxar with multiple murder cases against him, was out on parole for medical treatment. He succumbed to his injuries after the attack.

The Bihar Police have identified all five assailants, and have detained one suspect, identified as Tausif. Raids are underway to nab the remaining accused, said Patna SSP Kartikay Sharma, who also revealed that a rival gang—believed to be the Chandan Sheru gang—was behind the murder.

Authorities are also investigating whether hospital security personnel were complicit, as the gunmen faced no resistance during the operation.

This brazen act has sparked political outcry, with RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav slamming the state government: “Gunmen entered an ICU and shot a patient in a hospital. Is anyone safe in Bihar?” He questioned if the deteriorating law-and-order was reminiscent of pre-2005 Bihar.

Deputy CM Vijay Sinha condemned the incident, assuring that the government will act swiftly and firmly: “No criminal will be spared. The CM has directed for immediate and strict action.”

Meanwhile, DGP Vinay Kumar attempted to defend the government’s crime record, citing that murder cases have reduced significantly since 2004, though public confidence appears shaken with a spate of recent high-profile killings—including those of businessman Gopal Khemka, BJP leader Surendra Kewat, and lawyer Jitendra Mahato.

With Bihar set to go to polls later this year, the incident has intensified the political heat, raising serious questions about safety and governance in the state.
