Beltangady, July 16: Dakshina Kannada superintendent of police Dr Arun K has revealed that local sources have tipped off the police that the complainant in the Dharmasthala mass burial case might abscond after the completion of the exhumation process.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, Dr Arun K said, “There are unverified reports suggesting that the complainant may go into hiding immediately after the exhumation is concluded. This information has been shared with the complainant’s legal counsel, and the possibility is currently being examined.”

The SP also clarified that some reports in the media suggesting a hasty attempt to exhume remains without due investigative process are unfounded. “No exhumation will be carried out without completing all required legal procedures and assessing its investigative relevance,” he said.
Dr Arun K noted that the investigation team had recently learned about a petition filed in the Supreme Court concerning this case. However, this matter had not been brought to the attention of the investigating officer by the complainant’s legal representatives.
Further, he stated that the investigation team has submitted a request to the competent court to conduct brain-mapping, fingerprinting, and narco-analysis tests—only if the complainant provides written consent.
The SP reiterated that the timing of any further exhumation will be determined by the investigating officer in accordance with legal and procedural guidelines. “Only when the investigation officer deems it necessary and legally appropriate will the exhumation proceed,” he said.
