Bantwal, July 16:
A momentous occasion unfolded at the Government Higher Primary School in Neralakatte, Bantwal taluk, as brand-new classrooms were formally handed over and inaugurated on Monday.

The classrooms were constructed through the generous Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contributions of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) and the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPT)— marking a significant upgrade for the school’s infrastructure.

The ceremony, chaired by Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik saw the new facilities officially opened by MLC Kishore B R, MRPL’s HR head Keshava P, and the school’s head girl, Sadia. Adding to the excitement, the school also launched its first-ever LKG and UKG classes, inaugurated by former minister B Ramanath Rai, expanding early childhood education opportunities for the community.

Leaders urge collective effort to build educational excellence

In his stirring address, MLA Rajesh Naik underscored the power of unity across communities in nurturing educational institutions. “When people from all walks of life come together to develop this temple of knowledge, it creates a sense of ownership and pride for everyone,” he said. “Our collective effort is crucial for the sustained growth of this school,” he added.

Echoing this sentiment, MLC Kishore B R highlighted the importance of transcending divisions of religion, caste, and politics. “Only through collective cooperation can this school become a beacon of peace and harmony for all communities,” he remarked.

Community and dignitaries celebrate educational progress

The event drew a host of notable figures, including former minister B. Ramanath Rai, Bantwal Block Education Officer Manjunathan M.G., and representatives from MRPL and NMPT who lauded the school’s progress.

Prominent local leaders such as Netlamudnoor Grama Panchayat president Samitha D. Poojary, vice-president Satish Poojary Kopparige, and several panchayat members also attended, demonstrating strong community support for education.

Honouring contributors and celebrating commitment

Special recognition was given to MRPL’s Keshava P, NMPT’s Ramesh Bhandari Botyadi, and contractor Sandeep Shetty for their crucial roles in constructing the new classrooms. Additionally, the school honoured Sesappa Naik, a devoted teacher who served the institution for 12 years, with a heartfelt felicitation.

Programme highlights and school leadership

The event featured speeches from School Development Committee president P K Rasheed Parlotto and vice-president Shashikala, alongside the Old Students’ Association president Vithal Naik.

The headmistress, Kusuma, warmly welcomed all attendees, while Centenary Committee president K Niranjan Rai outlined the day’s proceedings. Assistant teacher Geetha Kumari K S introduced the honoured guests, and the programme was smoothly compered by Latif Neralkatte, a local panchayat member.
