Youth attacked by stray dogs at Morjim Beach, locals demand action

Morjim, Jul 15: A local youth from Morjim was bitten by a pack of stray dogs on Monday morning while walking along the beach en route to a fishing spot near Gaudewadda, in front of a resort.

The victim sustained injuries on his left thigh but did not seek help from the Drishti lifeguards present on the beach. Instead, he directly approached the nearby primary health centre for medical aid.

This latest incident has reignited public concern over the growing menace of stray dogs along Goa's beaches. Locals allege that shack operators and some foreign tourists frequently feed the dogs, encouraging territorial behaviour.

Residents have urged the tourism department and the local panchayat to take swift and concrete measures to address the issue.

With at least 22 dog bite cases reported on Goa’s beaches in 2024-25 alone, citizens are calling for sterilisation drives, improved monitoring, and stronger public safety measures from animal welfare authorities and government departments.
