Karkala: Student arrested for obscene, communally charged graffiti in hostel toilet

Karkala, July 14: A student of a private college has been arrested for allegedly writing obscene and communally provocative messages on a hostel toilet wall, reportedly aimed at inciting communal tension.

The accused has been identified as Fatima Shabna (21), a student of the college.

The incident occurred on May 7 at around 6 pm, when a few students discovered the offensive graffiti on the wall of the toilet in the first phase of the women’s hostel. Following the discovery, the manager of the college’s main ladies’ hostel filed a complaint at the Karkala Rural Police Station.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered. After a detailed investigation, the Karkala Rural police arrested the accused in connection with the incident on July 14.

The student was produced before the Karkala court on the same day.
