Sachin Should Have Retired After World Cup Win: Imran

Kolkata, Jan 31 (IANS) Former Pakistani cricket captain Imran Khan Monday said Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar should have retired after India won the cricket World Cup last year.

"We all want to go with a big bang but you always don't get it right. For Sachin the ultimate time to go was after that World Cup win. He had such a great World Cup. He is a great player," said Imran, who has come here to attend a book fair.

The only world cup winning captain of Pakistan feels that Sachin himself has to decide the time of retiring and the timing must be right.

"He has to decide for himself and the timing must be right. You don't want to go after losing to Australia for 4-0. If he had gone after that world cup, that would have been the ultimate high," Imran said.

Imran feels whether Tendulkar gets his 100th ton or not won't make much difference because statistics don't matter for a great player.

"You should not be playing to break records. Records should be part of the win. Sachin is a great player…records are after all statistics and statistics do not matter to great players," Imran said.

Lambu miya...Sachin is a "pride" of our Country, doesnt require anybodys suggestion, if you can advise your Pakistani palyers about the match fixing, it would have been much better.

I totally agree with Imran Khan sachin is playing since he was 16 year old.. It would have been great if he would have retired after world cup. No wonder he is a good player but the same time he should think of giving opportunity to other young 16 year old guys who could play better cricket than him.

Imran you better shut up your ugly mouth as you you did not do anything better. Since you retired from cricket you should retire from life and do not comment any thing to the media. Imran be in Pakistan and take care of your country as we do not want any advice from you. We pray that Sachin gets 100/100 soon and break the record. Anyway GOOD LUCK Sachin and you are a great player.

Yes..Legend Imran Khan said what most of the cricket fans wanted to say.It would have been a wise deicision if Tendulkar had retired after winning the World Cup.Now,he will have to retire like others who quit quietly.Only Sunil Gavaskar and Anil Kumble quit International cricket when fans wanted them to play.

Imran, Sachin is young, still 38, unlike you who played at 42, He's still in form, averaging 35.5 in the just concluded test series in Oz, when the other stalwarts of the team could'nt even average 25.and we Indians don't need advise from Pakis

Regarding Sachin retirement, a professional player like him should not be told to do so, it is upto the batsman to decide, but in Cricket, its better to quit when you are doing well, its always nice when people ask why he quit rather than why not he still quitting? I respect Anil Kumble in the sense that eventhough durig his end career he was not the great bowler as he once was he still retired when he knew he cannot bowl the way he used to be. Imran being a great player i think he told it correctly, statistics does not matter. A great player is not only judged by the number of runs or wickets but under the circumstances and if you consider that i dont think Sachin is great
