Pune, Jul 12: The manager of a hotel in the Camp area of Pune has been booked after a woman alleged that she found a cockroach in the soup served during dinner.

The incident took place on June 16 when Ashwini Shirsat (31), a resident of Dapodi, visited the hotel with her family. According to her complaint, the soup served to them contained a cockroach. When she raised the issue with the hotel staff, they allegedly responded with indifference.

Shirsat later approached the Lashkar police station, which registered an FIR against the hotel manager, Aman Hussain Shaikh, a resident of Azad Nagar in Bhiwandi.

Police officials said the hotel management had failed to adhere to hygiene norms, thus putting customers’ health at risk. “We have involved the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the inquiry. Following their report, a case has been registered,” an officer confirmed.

The FIR was filed under Sections 125 and 271 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Authorities have urged all food establishments to strictly comply with cleanliness and food safety regulations to avoid such incidents.
