Key drug peddler arrested in Mangaluru; former medical student among accused

Mangaluru, Jul 11: The city police arrested a key accused involved in the supply of narcotic substances in connection with a case registered under the NDPS Act.

The accused has been identified as Prajwal Pinyas, a native of Mangalpet, Bidar, and currently residing at Kodipalaya, Kengeri, Bengaluru.

A case (Crime No. 31/2025) was registered on July 2, at the Central Crime Police Station, Mangaluru city, under sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Investigation began by tracing consumers of narcotic substances and gradually led to identifying nine individuals involved in supplying drugs in Mangaluru city. All nine have been arrested and produced before the court, which has remanded them to judicial custody.

During the course of the investigation, one of the prime accused, who was allegedly sourcing drugs from Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh and supplying them to Mangaluru, was traced and arrested. He was produced before the court on July 10, and has been remanded to judicial custody. A mobile phone used in the crime has also been seized.

It was revealed that the accused had previously studied as a medical student at a private college in Mangaluru. He also has three previous cases related to drug peddling registered against him at various police stations in Mangaluru city.

    Supply, selling and using synthetic drugs is an unforgivable crime. The laws should be amended and made more stringent. At the same time, do not include, ayurvedic/herbal ones like ganja in the same list!
