Gurugram, Jul 10: In a horrifying act of domestic violence, a 25-year-old national-level tennis player, Radhika Yadav, was fatally shot by her father at their residence in Sushant Lok Phase-2, Sector 57, Gurugram, on Thursday morning.
According to Gurugram Police, the accused, Deepak Yadav (49), used his licensed firearm to shoot his daughter following a heated argument over her decision to continue operating a tennis academy — a venture he had long opposed.
The incident took place around 10:30 a.m. on the first floor of their home. Police say Deepak fired five rounds, three of which struck Radhika. Despite being rushed to a nearby private hospital by family members, she succumbed to her injuries.

Police have arrested Deepak Yadav, who has confessed to the crime. His brother Kuldeep Yadav, who lives on the ground floor of the same building, has filed the complaint.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Sandeep confirmed the motive appears to center around the tennis academy. “Radhika had insisted on running the academy against her father's wishes. He was financially dependent on rental income and reportedly disapproved of her professional choices,” he said.
The weapon used in the shooting has been seized and sent for ballistics and forensic analysis, according to the police. Authorities were initially alerted by the hospital staff, who reported that a woman with multiple gunshot wounds had been brought in critically injured.
Station House Officer Rajender Kumar from Sector-56 Police Station said family members are being questioned to determine if there were other underlying issues or motives beyond the reported conflict over the academy.
Radhika was reportedly a highly promising doubles player, ranked within the top 200 nationally, as per data from a tennis federation website.
The tragic incident has left the local sports community in shock, mourning the loss of a young athlete whose career was cut short by violence from within her own home.
