Jajpur, Jul 10: In a horrifying incident that has left Odisha's Jajpur district in shock, a man allegedly attempted to murder his estranged wife and her live-in partner in a brutal knife attack at Malahat village on Wednesday.
The accused, identified as Manoj Kumar Mohanty, a resident of Jarada village, is currently absconding. Police have launched an intense manhunt to apprehend him following the gruesome assault.

According to police sources, Mohanty allegedly lured his estranged wife and her partner, Prashant Nath, to a canal bank near Malahat on the pretext of a reconciliation meeting. Once there, the couple was reportedly ambushed. In a chilling act of violence, the woman’s throat was slit with surgical precision, while Prashant Nath’s genital region was severely mutilated.
Both victims were found in a pool of blood by local residents, who swiftly arranged for their transportation to the District Headquarters Hospital in Jajpur. Medical authorities confirmed that both victims were admitted in critical condition and continue to battle for their lives.
In her initial statement to the police, the woman, who had left her marital home nearly a year ago due to alleged domestic abuse, accused her in-laws of orchestrating the attack. “My in-laws used to abuse and beat me. Tired of the harassment, I left with Prashant a year ago,” she recounted.
Describing the incident, she said, “They invited us to the Sathipur Bridge area claiming they wanted to reconcile. But once we arrived, we were ambushed by my brother-in-law and a relative of my father-in-law. They tied us up, slit our throats, and dumped us by the canal.”
A case of attempted murder has been registered, and police have begun tracking down all those involved in the premeditated assault. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against the culprits.
The chilling episode has sent shockwaves across the region, triggering renewed concerns over rising domestic violence cases and personal vendetta turning into extreme acts of brutality.
