Kundapur, Jul 8: In a tragic incident, Kubera Dharma Nayak alias Kuberappa (49), headmaster of the Sulgodu Government Higher Primary School in Hallihole village, ended his life by suicide on Monday morning near Kamalashile while on his way to school.

A native of Chitradurga, Kuberappa was residing with his wife and three daughters in the government quarters at KPC Colony, Hosangady. He was found hanging from a tree near the Kamalashile bridge, with his raincoat lying nearby. The incident occurred while he was commuting to school on his two-wheeler.

Kuberappa had been in the teaching profession since 2002 and served for 22 years in the Byndoor zone. In 2022, he was promoted to head teacher and posted at Sulgodu School, which was declared closed following the incident.

Sources said he had taken several loans, including from a chit fund, and was also managing a flour mill and a small sheep and goat farm at Hosangady. A loan letter related to the chit fund is reported to have reached the Byndoor Area Education Officer’s office recently.

Byndoor Zone Education Officer Nagesh Nayak, Primary School Teachers Association President Shekhar Poojary, Field Coordinator Pradeep Shetty, DySP Kulkarni, Police Inspector Jayarama Gowda, and PSI Nasir Hussain visited the spot.

His wife, Sumita Ramanayake, has lodged a complaint with the police. A case has been registered at the Shankaranarayana police station, and investigations are ongoing.

Its very sad.One who is head of family with responsibility suicided .Now who will take the responsibility of these kids and his wife? One should just think about them too.Loan should be taken only if are able to refund and to the extent of what you can.Now poor kids have no father .should wife now refund?Heartfelt sympathies to family.May his soul rest in peace.
