Suspected human sacrifice sparks outrage in Madhya Pradesh village

Bhopal, Jul 6: A horrifying case of suspected human sacrifice has rocked Tikamgarh district in Madhya Pradesh after the decapitated body of a 32-year-old man, Akhilesh Kushwaha, was found near a local place of worship in Vijaypur village on Sunday morning.

Kushwaha’s head and torso were discovered separately near the “Godbaba Chabutra,” a revered platform in the area. Police officials from Chandera station, under whose jurisdiction the area falls, were alerted to the scene around 10:00 a.m., where they recovered ritualistic items including a flag, lemon, coconut, incense sticks, and a chillum, raising strong suspicions of occult practices.

“We are investigating all possible angles, including ritual sacrifice,” said a senior police officer, who declined to provide further details at this stage.

Kushwaha, a resident of nearby Satguwa village, had gone out Saturday afternoon to collect milk but never returned. His father had passed away earlier the same day, compounding the family’s grief.

Forensic teams and a dog squad have been deployed, and statements from villagers and relatives are being collected. A case of murder has been registered against unknown persons, and post-mortem procedures are underway.

The sarpanch representative of Satgawa Panchayat has demanded a CBI investigation, citing the brutality of the crime and a lack of immediate answers. Villagers have warned of mass protests if authorities fail to make progress within ten days.

The case has sparked wider concerns about the persistence of superstitious and ritualistic practices in parts of rural Madhya Pradesh. Authorities continue to investigate, with public pressure mounting for swift justice in what appears to be a deeply disturbing act of violence.
