Bhopal, Jul 6: A controversy erupted in Madhya Pradesh’s capital Bhopal after a video showing several national flags being burnt at a garbage dump went viral on Saturday, prompting swift police action and political outrage.
The incident reportedly occurred near the office of ward 50, where garbage is regularly burnt by civic workers. Shahpura police have launched an investigation to identify those responsible.

“Two complaints have been received regarding the burning of flags. CCTV footage is being examined as part of the investigation,” confirmed sub-inspector Harish Gujarbos of Shahpura police station.
A Congress delegation led by party spokesperson Vivek Tripathi approached the police, demanding immediate and strict action. Tripathi alleged that civic staffers were behind the act and blamed the municipal body for negligence.
BJP corporator from ward 50, Sushma Babisha, also submitted a complaint and demanded a thorough inquiry into the incident.
The burning of the Tricolour has sparked widespread condemnation across party lines, with calls for accountability and respect for national symbols.
