Manchester, Jul 4: The much-anticipated KCA 2025 inter-city Athletic Meet took place on June 28 at the Cleavley Athletics Track in Eccles, Manchester, UK, drawing enthusiastic participation from the Konkani-speaking community across the UK and Ireland.
The day began with KCA serving a traditional Mangalurean breakfast to all participants and supporters, setting the tone for a day filled with energy and camaraderie. A special children’s area, organized by Sonia Sharon D’Souza for ages 1-11, featured play equipment, books, stamps, colouring activities, and stickers, ensuring the younger attendees were engaged and entertained.























All participants proudly took part in a formal march past, bearing their respective association flags, and assembled in formation for the commencement of the opening ceremony.
The event was officially kicked off by host Anthony Mary Rodrigues, who warmly welcomed the chief guest, Rakhee Sharda (Area branch manager, State Bank of India, Manchester), alongside large contingents from SKA (London), MUKA (Nottingham), NEKA (Sunderland), PCA (Preston), DUBLIN (Ireland), and the host team KCA (Manchester).
The hosts invited the chief guest and the KCA core committee to the dais, sharing an inspiring overview of KCA’s 20-year journey and its mission to unite Konkani-speaking people while preserving their language and culture through events such as this.
KCA president Sujith Rodrigues welcomed the audience and emphasized the importance of upholding the spirit of sportsmanship, encouraging everyone to enjoy the day and strive for excellence.
The opening ceremony featured a vibrant welcome song and dance, performed by children and adults from all participating associations, blending Konkani and English in a beautiful cultural showcase. This was followed by the British National Anthem, presented through a heartfelt instrumental rendition and a recorded audio version.
Rakhee Sharda was introduced by the host, highlighting her achievements in the banking sector. In her address, Sharda spoke passionately about the values of unity and resilience, which resonated deeply with the audience.
Roylet D’Souza then read out the safety guidelines, urging all participants to compete responsibly. The 2024 gold medallists were honoured on stage, followed by an oath-taking ceremony led by Diana Monis, pledging fair play and integrity.
The event was officially declared open with a colorful balloon release led by the chief guest, alongside the Athletics organising team –Joseph Sequeira and Vinjoy Rego.
A delicious lunch was served between allowing everyone a chance to relax and recharge.
The event concluded with a lively award ceremony, co-hosted by Vinod Barboza and Lainet Pinto. The evening was further enlivened by group dances and live singing performances led by Stephi Martis & team, adding a festive flair to the celebrations.
Music throughout the event was provided by DJ Ajith Rego, while photography and videography were expertly handled by Wilson Coelho and team. The ground was decorated with colourful arrangements by ‘Party Pallets’ team to make the event more memorable.
Sonal Mendonca, secretary of KCA, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants, volunteers, and supporters for their enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and for making the event a grand success.
Fank Raj served as the match official throughout the entire Intercity Athletics Day. His dedication and fair officiating ensured that all events ran smoothly and fairly.

The day featured a range of thrilling competitions for children & adults, including:
50m, 100m, 200m, 400m Sprints, Javelin Throw, Shot Put, Long Jump, 4x100m Relay and Tug of War.
KCA (Manchester) emerged as the overall champions, securing the highest number of medals at the meet. They were closely followed by:
• MUKA (Nottingham) – First runner up
• NEKA (Sunderland) – Second runner up
