Kolkata, Jul 4: For Dippendu Biswas, pulling on the Green and Maroon jersey of Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG) is not just a professional milestone—it's the fulfilment of a childhood dream and a personal journey that’s come full circle.
The 22-year-old defender from West Bengal, who began his footballing career on the bylanes of Kolkata with aspirations in his heart and determination in his veins, has now etched his name into the rich legacy of one of India's most iconic football clubs. “This is not just a club; this is our mother club,” he proudly stated in an exclusive interaction with MBSG TV.
Biswas rose through the ranks, beginning with the Calcutta Football League (CFL), making his way into the MBSG reserves, and finally earning his place in the senior squad. His breakthrough came during the 2023-24 Indian Super League (ISL) season, where he debuted and played a part in MBSG's maiden ISL Shield triumph.
In the most recent season, Biswas’s contributions were even more significant—making 14 appearances, notching a goal, and assisting twice. Known for his versatility in defence, he slotted seamlessly as both centre-back and right-back, helping the team maintain five clean sheets on their way to clinching the ISL Cup, completing a historic double.
“It felt amazing to become champions with MBSG,” he said. “It’s truly one of the best clubs in India. The fans are absolutely crazy and it feels great to be part of something this big.”
His dedication didn’t go unnoticed, as his performances earned him a call-up to the Indian U-23 squad for international exposure friendlies in June.
Biswas recalled his humble beginnings—watching matches from the stands, cheering the club he loved, never imagining he’d one day take to the pitch in the same jersey. “I used to come with friends to watch Mohun Bagan matches. I never imagined I’d wear this jersey as a player. Now that I’m here, it’s a matter of immense pride.”
One of his most emotional moments came when he was able to celebrate the club’s ISL Cup victory on the pitch with his parents—something he missed out on the previous season when the team lost the final to Mumbai City FC. “Last time my parents came to the final, we lost. But this year, they were there again, and we won. That made the moment even more special,” he shared.
Despite his meteoric rise, Biswas remains grounded and focused on the future. “One should never settle. There’s always more to achieve. It’s important to honour the jersey we wear and give our all for this club.”
With a solid start to his senior career and an unwavering connection to the club he cherishes, Dippendu Biswas represents the beating heart of Mohun Bagan Super Giant — a player whose journey is rooted in passion, persistence, and pride.
