Udupi, Jul 3: Silas International School celebrated Vanamahotsava- 2025, 'Plant a Tree-Plant a Life' at School premises on July 2.

Vanamohatsava, a festival of forest life was observed reminding all that only if they stop cutting trees and plant more, can it be hoped to sustain life on Earth.

Every year Silas International School celebrates this festival with great zeal and this year the day began with speeches by teachers and students in the assembly in the morning. They impressed upon the students of the urgent need to pay attention to Mother Nature, especially to planting trees.

The event began with a beautiful prayer song thanking the lord for all the bounties of nature he has showered upon all. After a warm welcome to the audience by Isha Pai of grade 10. Aishu Dinesh of grade 10 spoke about the significance of the day.

The guests and the principal then planted saplings, symbolically inaugurating the fest. A special song by the choir, a documentary on Tulsi Gowda and Jadav Payang, champions of nature, a fantastically synchronised dance by girls of grades 8 and 9 and a mime by the boys of grade 9 added beauty to the event.

While the chief guest Mohammed Junaid Akhtar, range forest officer of Udupi inspired the students with his presence, his deputy Devaraj Pana, beat forest officer, made an impactful speech by highlighting the advantages of taking care of flora and fauna. He also urged the youngsters to plant a tree on their birthdays and in the name of their mothers.

In her address, principal Jacinta D'Costa enumerated the uses of trees, and said that by planting trees people contribute to a healthier and brighter future. She further observed that as young minds children possessed the power to make a difference and they must, not only plant trees but also look after them with love and dedication. The principal invited each one present to join the mission of making the Earth a greener and happier place to live.

To give the children the unique experience of doing things with their own hands and to connect them wholeheartedly with this mission of making the planet a greener one, the Scouts, Guides, Cubs and Bulbuls Unit along with their guides, under the table guidance of the dignitaries planted medicinal plants, saplings of shady and fruit trees, and so on in the vicinity of the school.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks and the School Anthem.
