New Delhi, Jun 30: In a commendable show of maritime readiness and humanitarian assistance, the Indian Navy warship INS Tabar came to the rescue of a merchant vessel MT Yi Cheng 6, which was engulfed in flames in the Gulf of Oman.

The vessel, sailing under the Pulau flag, was en route from Kandla Port in Gujarat to Shinas in Oman, when it suffered a major fire in its engine room coupled with a total power failure. A distress signal was immediately relayed, which was promptly received by INS Tabar, currently deployed on mission in the region.

Reacting swiftly, 13 naval personnel from INS Tabar, along with 5 ship crew members, launched an urgent firefighting operation. Equipment and a fire-response team were airlifted and transferred to the distressed vessel via INS Tabar’s boat and helicopter, the Indian Navy confirmed.

The merchant ship had 14 Indian crew members aboard, all of whom were reported safe thanks to the timely intervention by the Indian Navy.

The Navy’s action not only averted a possible maritime disaster but also highlighted India’s commitment to maritime safety and its vigilant presence in the critical sea lanes of the region.
