Mangaluru, Jun 29: June 28 marked a historic milestone in the journey of Carmel Central School, Kotekar, as the institution joyfully inaugurated its new school building a long-cherished dream brought to life through collective prayer, perseverance, and the generous support of many well-wishers.
The event commenced with a ceremonial escort of the dignitaries by the school band and a guard of honour presented by the student contingent under the guidance of Vijay Olivera. The atmosphere radiated pride and gratitude as the school community came together to witness this momentous occasion.

Gracing the event with their esteemed presence were U T Khader, speaker, Karnataka Legislative Assembly; Michael D’Souza, philanthropist and key benefactor; Sr Maria Naveena AC, provincial superior, Karnataka province; Sr Maria Shamita AC, former provincial superior; Oswald Viegas, architect; Roy Castelino, contractor; Fr Joy Francis OCD; Sr Rose Agnes AC, assistant provincial superior; Eshwarappa, block education officer, Mangaluru South; Sr Juliana Mary AC, joint secretary; Sr Julie Ann AC, administrator; Geetha Hegde, PTA vice president; Sr Pramila AC, principal and Sr Anitha AC, vice principal.
The inauguration began with Michael D’Souza and family unveiling commemorative plaques, followed by Sr Maria Naveena AC cutting the ribbon, symbolizing the formal opening of the new block. A blessing ceremony led by Fr Joy Francis OCD was held in the foyer, dedicating the new building to the mission of education and holistic development.
The celebrations continued in the school auditorium with a vibrant welcome dance by the students. A warm welcome address by principal Sr Pramila AC followed, highlighting the school’s vision and unwavering commitment to academic excellence and value-based education.
The lighting of the ceremonial lamp, a symbol of the school's motto, ‘From ignorance to knowledge,’ set a reflective tone. A special documentary showcased the journey of the new building from vision to reality paying tribute to the teamwork and dedication of everyone involved.
A soulful motivational song by the school choir lifted the spirit of the gathering. A felicitation ceremony honoured all key contributors, including benefactors, architects, contractors, and support staff, acknowledging their pivotal roles in the project.
In his address, U T Khader applauded the school’s efforts and acknowledged the government's 20% contribution to the building and hostel projects, provided in the spirit of public service and unity. He wished continued success to the students and staff of Carmel School.
Michael D’Souza, in his speech, underscored the importance of education in nation-building. He encouraged students to focus on studies, respect elders, and uphold values, while urging teachers to instill moral education and parents to support their children’s growth.
Tokens of appreciation were presented to team members including assistant architects, construction staff, and workers each name a tribute to Carmel’s collective spirit and excellence.
A special honour was bestowed on Sr Maria Naveena AC, the day’s president, who in her presidential address, expressed joy at witnessing the fruition of the Carmel mission. She emphasized that the new facility is not merely a building, but a temple of learning, dedicated to empowering generations with knowledge, values, and joy. She entrusted the building to the care of the management and staff and invoked God’s blessings upon the entire school community.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by vice principal Sr Anitha AC, followed by the National Anthem, uniting everyone in a moment of pride and purpose.
The inauguration was not just a ceremonial event it was a celebration of vision, unity, and hope. As this new chapter unfolds, may the new school block stand tall as a beacon of knowledge, character, and transformation, continuing the Carmel legacy for generations to come.
