Experts call for national strategy against digital terrorism at Jaipur forum

Jaipur, Jun 28: A high-impact discussion on society’s role in combating terrorism took place on Saturday at the Constitution Club in Jaipur under the banner of the Global Dialogue Forum 'Vishwam'. The session brought together leading voices from the military, diplomacy, and academia to confront the rising threat of radicalisation, especially through digital platforms.

Major General Sudhakar issued a stark warning about the evolution of terrorism into the digital realm, describing social media as a powerful tool for “cognitive warfare” — psychological manipulation aimed at misleading youth. He stressed the urgency of crafting a national strategy to counter digital brainwashing, warning, “If we don’t change the false and extremist narrative, it will change us.”

Former diplomat Gauri Shankar Gupta echoed similar concerns and urged the implementation of a uniform education system across the country, arguing that fragmented schooling fuels societal division and undermines the collective stand against extremism. He also strongly advocated for the swift enforcement of the Uniform Civil Code to provide a shared legal framework for all citizens.

Thinker Ashutosh Pant emphasised the need to build a morally conscious and intellectually engaged society, stating that only through citizen awareness can terrorism be effectively countered.

Event organisers and Vishwam founders Vikrant Singh and Murari Gupta highlighted the forum’s aim — to tackle urgent societal issues and formulate actionable strategies.
