New Delhi, Jun 28: In a shocking incident from north Delhi’s Timarpur area, a 26-year-old man allegedly shot and killed his father following an argument over who would sit in the front seat of a hired tempo. The family was preparing to shift to their native village in Uttarakhand when the tragedy occurred on Thursday evening.

The accused, identified as Deepak, was arrested on the spot. Police recovered the weapon used in the crime a licensed gun belonging to the victim along with 11 live cartridges.

The incident took place around 7.30 pm near MS Block, Timarpur. According to sources, police personnel on patrol rushed to the scene after hearing a gunshot and found 60-year-old Surendra Singh lying in a pool of blood while locals tried to overpower Deepak and seize the weapon.

Surendra Singh, a retired sub-inspector of the CISF, was taken to HRH Hospital but was declared brought dead. The bullet had entered through his left cheek, causing severe facial injuries.

Preliminary investigations suggest the family was in the process of relocating to Uttarakhand after Surendra Singh's retirement six months ago. While loading household belongings into a tempo, a heated argument erupted between father and son over sitting in the front seat. Surendra reportedly insisted on taking the seat due to the cramped space in the rear, which enraged Deepak. In a fit of rage, Deepak allegedly fetched his father's firearm and shot him at close range.

Police have registered a case of murder and are continuing their investigation.
