Vidisha, Jun 28: In a shocking incident that has sparked widespread outrage, a Dalit family was brutally assaulted while sowing seeds on their farmland in Narayanpura village of Madhya Pradesh’s Lateri tehsil on Friday.

According to reports, members of the Ahirwar community were cultivating their land when a group allegedly belonging to the Gurjar community attacked them with sticks. The accused also snatched their soybean seeds and sowed them in their own field. The assault, which left four people seriously injured including two women, was captured on video and has since gone viral.

One of the victims, Bhagwat Singh Ahirwar, said, “We were sowing seeds on our own land when Murari, Hansraj, Gudda, Parvat, and Bunty came and started beating us. They even attacked the women and took away our seeds.”

All injured were rushed to the Lateri Government Hospital for treatment.

While the victims claim rightful ownership of the land, authorities suggested that part of the disputed plot may be government-owned. Vidisha Superintendent of Police Rohit Kashwani confirmed that a case had been registered and action would follow based on the medical reports.

District Collector Anshul Gupta stated that the matter is under legal scrutiny and that no encroachment on government land would be tolerated.

The incident has triggered sharp criticism from the Congress party. District Congress President Mohit Raghuvanshi alleged the attack was caste-motivated. “This is not just a land issue – it’s clear caste oppression. The Congress stands firmly with the victims and demands swift arrest of the accused,” he said.

The case has once again raised concerns over caste-based violence and land rights in rural India.
