Palghar, Jun 27: In a major crackdown, Maharashtra’s excise department seized smuggled Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth Rs 10.35 lac from Palghar district. The operation, conducted on June 25 and 26, also led to the confiscation of three vehicles used in smuggling, valued at Rs 23 lac.
Acting on a tip-off, excise teams intercepted a tempo and two cars carrying liquor intended for sale exclusively in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, confirmed Superintendent of State Excise Ganesh Bargaje.
Two men, Rasik Bhoye and Dinesh Nadge from Jawhar in Palghar, were arrested, while another suspect fled, abandoning his vehicle. The accused have been booked under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act.
Officials said investigations are on to trace the liquor's source and uncover the smuggling network.
